Contemporary classics

By Anita Stienstra

An award-winning chamber ensemble, Soli, performs Oct. 21 at Illinois College as part of the Illinois College Fine Arts Series. With a reputation for playing 20th century classics and commissioning new works, their concert features Olivier Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time,” along with a piece written for the group by Illinois College composer Timothy Kramer. Ensemble members include: Stephanie Key on clarinet, Ertan Torgul on violin, David Mollenauer on cello and Carolyn True playing the piano. Soli’s awards and distinctions include playing at the South by Southwest Music and Media Festival, and receiving grants from The Russell Hill Rogers Fund for the Arts, the Argosy Foundation, the Cornyation Foundation, and the City of San Antonio, Office of Cultural Affairs. More concert details can be read at www.ic.edu/fas.
