Vibrant virtuosos

Boundary breaking violinist Nicolas Kendall of Time for Three, ensemble-in-residence with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, plays with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, April 13 at Sangamon Auditorium, UIS. With theatrical lighting, the concert begins with the world premiere of “The Arc Inspired,” written by composer Steve Hackman. Also on tap, Sibelius’ “Violin Concerto” and Strauss’ “Death and Transfiguration.” Kendall co-founded Time for Three, Dryden String Quartet and the acclaimed East Coast Chamber Orchestra. He has played Chicago, San Francisco, Cleveland, New York, Tokyo and Chile. Hackman’s work includes producing, arranging, composing and conducting performances that interweave the music of Radiohead with Brahms, Coldplay with Beethoven, and Bon Iver with Aaron Copland, among others. Concert comments with Kendall, Hackman and Alastair Willis, ISO conductor and musical director, start at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door beginning two hours before the performance.
