Recently purchased a new battery for my electric lawn mower for about $100 dollars. Definitely worth the price. I've used no gas for the last three years. I haven't had to drive to the local gas station in my car using more gas and worrying the entire drive home that the gas will spill out of the container into my trunk. The mower's cut is just as good as that of my gas-powered mower. Starting the mower is so easy. No oil changes. And an added benefit to my electric mower is the machine is much quieter. That's a big bonus in my neighborhood when all the yard appliances start reeving up their motors. Some weeks there is no relief when everyone does their yard work on a different day.
I urge anyone considering purchasing an electric mower this spring to take the plunge. Of course an electric mower is not a viable alternative if you have acres of land to mow. For those who think they have too much green to cut, I urge you to take a look at turning parts of your lawn into flower, herb, vegetable or fruit gardens as I have. Here's a group to get you started on that - Food Not Lawns. Then, go get electrified if you still have smaller green spaces.
