Sunday, July 28, will be a great time to visit one or all of Springfield’s community vegetable gardens in the University of Illinois Extension’s Roots to Rooftop tour. There are eight sites on the tour: genHkids gardens at Douglas School, genHkids Seeds of Possibility community garden, Illinois Department of Agriculture community garden, Jefferson Park community garden, Maldaner’s rooftop garden, The Neighborhood Gardens, Springfield Community Garden and Suttill’s Gardens. Free refreshments, provided by Slow Food Springfield, will be served at Edwards Place Historic Home, 700 N. Fourth St. For more info, go to web.extension.illinois.edu. The best way to find info at the site is to type “Roots to Rooftops” in the search box. The main page has links to a flyer, press release, frequently asked questions, map and list of participating sites with addresses.
