When bassist Brian Phillips (from Wonder Why) and lead guitarist Danny “The Kid” Schroeder (from the Outnumbered) were forming a new band, Phillips mentioned the process was just like band beginnings so many times before. Kid then referenced the film Groundhog Day, and the new band had a name. Joined by lead singer Andy Armstrong (from House of Nasty) and drummer Danny Wilson (from the Outnumbered), the quartet started three years ago focusing their decades of previous performance practice on classic rock covers with a heavy edge. When you make it to a Groundhog Day gig it might seem like a repeat of time. The group spans three decades of the classiest and rocking-est classic rock, delving into artists such as Dokken, Ozzy, AC-DC, Ratt, ZZ Top, Alice in Chains, Green Day, Van Halen and many others, including a few surprises. Coming off a successful Trading Post show last weekend, the band hits the Curve Inn, Saturday, then makes a repeat performance at the Koo Koo’s Nest on Oct. 26.
