This evening: Reception for Kevin Veara exhibition at UIS Visual Gallery

Kevin Veara owns land on the banks of the Sangamon River and his studio is surrounded by forest, so it makes sense that he creates vibrant, colorful paintings of birds and plants indigenous to the Springfield area. “I have always had a great liking for birds. They are a barometer of the quality of the environment,” Veara stated in a press release. “Their populations rise and fall in response to the quality of the environment. Being here makes me more aware of my surroundings. This house puts me in the middle of it, this process." Veara has an MFA in painting from Southern Illinois University and owns and in addition to painting, he operates Black Moon Tattoos at 109 W. Edwards Street.

A reception for Veara's latest exhibition will take place this evening, January 30th, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at the UIS Visual Arts Gallery, located in the Health and Science Building, room 201 (HSB 201) . Complimentary refreshments will be provided. This event is free and open to the public.  For further information exhibition programming, please visit the UIS Visual Arts Gallery website at http://www.uis.edu/visualarts/gallery, or contact the gallery by phone at (217) 206-6506 or email: alach3@uis.edu
