A.D. Carson rides again

Last summer, teacher, poet and recording artist A.D. Carson left Springfield to pursue his Ph.D. at South Carolina's Clemson University, leaving a notable gap in local culture (the fact that he was awarded his second Torch Tuesday "Lyricist of the Year" Award in absentia speaks volumes to his status in the hip-hop community).

Carson is back in the area for a visit this week and will be giving a trio of readings in different locations over the next few days. He will perform at the Vachel Lindsay Home (603 S. Fifth Street) at 5 p.m. this evening as part of their ongoing Poets in the Parlor series. On Thursday he will be returning to Benedictine University - where he once served as Writer in Residence - for a reading at the "Doghouse" in Dawson Hall at noon after which he will travel to SIU Edwardsville for another appearance at 7 p.m.

Check out this video of Carson in action and then head out to see one of Springfield's favorite sons in person.
