FOREIGN EXCHANGE SEEKING FAMILIES

Local families have a chance to host international students for the upcoming school year.

Ayusa International, a nonprofit foreign exchange program that offers high school student cultural exchanges, is looking for Illinois families interested in hosting students for the 2014-2015 school year.

Ayusa is specifically looking for families in the Springfield and Taylorville areas. Ayusa’s exchange students are ages 15-18 and come from more than 60 countries, including Brazil, Japan, Germany, Ecuador, France, the Netherlands, Morocco, China and Spain. All students are fully insured, bring their own spending money and are proficient in English.

The Germann family of Springfield hosted Pauline, an exchange student from the Netherlands, this school year.

“Hosting our students, who are now our ‘kids,’ has been one of the happiest and most enjoyable experiences we’ve ever had,” host mom Annie Germann said.

Families without children, empty nesters, military families, retirees and single people are all welcome to apply. More information on the program can be found at www.ayusa.org.
