Fashion Afrique opens its doors for an art exhibit. Pieces features the edgy photography and art of well-regarded Springfield-area art photographer Laura Kay Coffey and multimedia artist Mark Schwartz. Approximately 24 pieces of art will be on display and for sale opening night July 18 and through Aug. 1. Music will be by Frank Trompeter Quartet, including Tombé Kemayo, Julie Hulvey and Gordon Carvahlo. Fashion Afrique will serve ethnic foods and present models wearing some of Fashion Afrique’s latest clothing designs in an informal fashion show. Coffey (untitled art, left) has shown at Prairie House Gallery, Vachel Lindsay State Historic Site and currently has a show at Sangamo Club. Schwartz’s collage work was featured by the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and commissioned for American Cancer Society and Pecha Kucha. (Pictured right is “Fish Head in Tux Redux” by Swartz and Coffey.) Schwartz is also a talented experimental guitarist who plays with End Times Trio, scheduled to play Fashion Afrique on July 19 at 7 p.m.
