New ensemble

Springfield has a new professional choral ensemble. Meet the Gloriana Chamber Choir at their inaugural concert on Sunday, Aug. 3 at First Presbyterian Church. “Long Live Fair Oriana: A Concert of English Choral Music from the Lifetimes of Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Elizabeth II” will feature Benjamin Britten’s choral dances from Gloriana and madrigals from the collection The Triumphs of Oriana. A cappella choral works by Renaissance and 20th century composers Byrd, Gibbons, Weelkes, Tallis, Stanford, Holst, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Willan and Finzi will also be performed. The 15-member ensemble of experienced singers is led, and was founded, by Dr. Elizabeth W. Zobel, a music professor and Department of Performing Arts chair at Blackburn College.
