Outstanding response to first-ever Illinois Times cover art contest and gallery event
On Friday, April 1, Illinois Times joined forces with The Pharmacy Gallery & Art Space to present the results of the first-ever Illinois Times Capital City Visitor’s Guide Cover Art Contest during a three-hour gallery event. From 5-8 p.m., wine and beer flowed compliments of Danenberger Family Vineyards and Schlafly; HyVee deli rolls, pastries, charcuterie, fruit and vegetables were devoured; and the sweet, acoustic sounds of Lowder and Manning floated down from the balcony. Signage by Ace Sign Co. guided visitors through the exhibition, and floral arrangements courtesy of 2015’s “Best of Springfield” best florist, Fifth Street Flower Shop, brightened the table displays.
The gallery was packed for the duration of the event. Notable guests included Lincoln Productions actor and historical impersonator Michael Krebs, State Rep. Tim Butler, various local creatives and artists including our three contest winners Kevin Atterbery (first place), Jane Bucci (second place) and Jeff C. Williams (third place), plus many of the contest’s entrants, including our youngest participant, 15-year-old Tehya McDonald.
Illinois Times was gratified by the quality and number of submissions received as well as the overwhelming support for the gallery event, so we have decided that the Illinois Times Capital City Visitor’s Guide Cover Art Contest will become an annual occurrence.
