apologia poem #3

 apologia poem #3

dear cherished charities – smallest
frogs to largest shrinking icecaps
swollen babies’ bellies to all helpless
homeless prisoned poisoned deformed
demented defamed defunded: you know
by now I sent you only tokens this past
season some of you I omitted entirely
I spent my pence (and more) on those
who if elected might protect you might
save you some won but greed trumped
need so you and all of us, people to planet,
are in even graver danger I hope to do
better next december who knows even
my pension might then be up for grabs
