Hailing from towns in central Illinois, friends and bandmates Jamie Merideth (vocals, keys), Phil Cooper (rhythm guitar), Dave Primeaux (lead guitar), Aaron Kaufmann (bass) and Jake McNamara (drums), along with contributions on recordings from Jeremy Bobbitt (bass), Jared Headrick (percussion/ programming), Stan Croenne (percussion) and Matt McMillan (percussion), used experiences from playing in other bands to form this band called Astrofix. Citing influences from Pink Floyd to The Flaming Lips, Iron and Wine to Radiohead, The Beatles to Nirvana, Astrofix covers songs from the ’60s to the ’90s while adding in cool-sounding originals based on classic rock influences as well. They’ve just begun to enter into the live music scene of Springfield with plans to expand into other areas, such as St. Louis and Chicago, sometime in the near future. They describe their process of making music as “blending originals with covers from their musical heroes” and the band’s sound as “ever-evolving, as a reflection of their lives,” and that sounds pretty darn good to us and, very likely, might to you as well.
