Concert and conversation

On Saturday, Jan. 20, take in an evening of stories and songs from songwriters Sally Barris, Amy Benton and Tom Irwin. Sally Barris is a sought-after Nashville songwriter who has penned music for Martina McBride, Kelli Pickler, Lee Ann Womack, Trisha Yearwood and others. Amy Benton, the organizer of this event, is a Taylorville native whose music has led her coast to coast in support of national acts and received airplay on Nashville’s WSM 650AM, the “most famed country music station in the world.” Tom Irwin is a local legend who has been performing in the central Illinois music scene for more than 35 years, a respected liaison between musicians and their audiences. Tickets to “Passing Notes: Stories and Songs” cost $20, and proceeds support the Springfield Area Arts Council. Advance tickets are recommended for this event. Tickets are available by phone at 523-2787 or online at http://hcfta.org.
