Jesse W. Johnson Band

Originally a resident of Springfield before relocating to Champaign, Jesse W. Johnson then moved to Chicago, where he made a splash as the frontman and songwriter in Jet W. Lee, a band that successfully recorded and toured nationally. Soon after a solo record release and time spent negotiating the music landscape, JWJ struck out with a like-minded group of musicians prepared to, organically and with spirit, interpret his songwriting vision and performance perception. Jesse describes their sound as “hooky-yet-dark rock and roll with the tiniest little twinge of country twang,” and we might add the recorded music is intensely listenable with well-placed and well-played instrumentation allowing the story to match the music, which makes for a solid and uncompromising set of songs that practically demand to be heard. His second full-length album, American Dumpster, came out in July of 2017, and Jesse (vocals, guitar, harmonica) along with bandmates Dane Marcussen (drums), Yoo Soo Kim (viola, synth, vocals) and Matt McGuire (bass) are on a mission to play all the songs for you all to experience anytime.
