John Byrne Band

Originally from Dublin, Ireland, this highly-regarded American-Celtic folk musician spent his formative years in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and his career spans both areas. From an acclaimed CD debut in 2010 through heralded performances and landmark recordings, John Byrne and his gifted group of fellow players set a course for modern Irish music in America, inspired by traditional Celtic tunes and American folk songs, all under the influence of American songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams and Tom Waits. In 2017 John ventured back to his native land to record with his ballad-singing father. The resulting album, titled John J. Byrne and the Twangmen, features John and his brother Damien plus a host of Irish musicians backing up dad (John J.) and singing his favorite Irish and American songs. The John Byrne Band consists of John on vocals, guitar and bodhran, plus musicians covering fiddle/cello, banjo and guitar, as well as other instruments as needed. They’ve been playing out in Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado, and we are privileged to have them stop by town on their way back home to Philly.
