Chris Duarte

This Austin-based guitarist, songwriter and singer gets welcomed and warranted comparisons to the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan and combines other flavors of electric Texas-blues players as well, including shades of the also late and great Johnny Winter to create his very own sound. Originally from San Antonio, Chris started playing gigs at age 15, moved to Austin when he was 16, and saw SRV live at The Continental Club before Stevie went huge with the David Bowie break. In 1994 Duarte caught his own break when New York-based Supertone Records released Texas Sugar/Strat Magik, his critically-acclaimed debut record, then followed it up three years later with Tailspin Headwhack. Since then he’s continued to record and tour, releasing eight more albums in the ensuing years; six of those in the last decade, while spending his remaining time crisscrossing the country with his blues trio, the Chris Duarte Group. This week he’s in Kansas City and Chicago before rolling into town to take down the blues.
