Paint It Red
Reliving the 1908 Springfield race riots an original play will take to the stage on November 8, 2008.
Thanks in large part to the success of Mobs, Murders and Justice: You Be the Judge, the Citizens Club will produce a full-length original play the weekend of Nov. 8 detailing the events of the 1908 Springfield Race Riots.
The reenactment of the trial of Abraham Raymer, the man acquitted in the murder of 84-year-old William Donnegan, attracted such a large crowd in September that the club decided to continue with its original plan to depict all of the riot events before an audience.
Paint It Red, written by David Logan, a Citizens Club member and Springfield College professor, will present the stories of 20 or more rioters, victims, or witnesses known to have been involved. Interested actors can audition for the play, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at Angela Hall at Springfield College-Benedictine University.
For more information, Logan can be reached at 525-1420, ext. 290.
