EVEN LAWYERS FORGET

EVEN LAWYERS FORGET

Let's face it, folks, love him or hate him, Ward 5 Ald. Sam Cahnman sometimes finds himself in sticky situations.

At last week's meeting of the Citizen's Club, Mark Reichert, president of the Sangamon County Farm Bureau, called Cahnman out for unethical behavior. Cahnman and Reichert were part of a four-person panel that addressed the pros and cons of the county board cutback referendum; Reichert accused Cahnman of meddling with the petition that boosted the measure onto the Nov. 4 ballot.

"Mr. Cahnman is sitting down there," Reichert said. "He is an attorney, he knows the rules, but he himself signed the petition twice. Mr. Cahnman should know better than that. You can only sign it one time."

Cahnman shrugged off the finger-pointing.

"The petition had 500 pages," he explained to Cap City. "I probably signed it once at the beginning, and then forgot and signed it again."
