For over 30 years, Jake’s Leg has faithfully and uniquely reproduced the music of the Grateful Dead while extending the spirit of the popular band through heartfelt lifestyle interpretation and imitation. The St. Louis-based group started as a guitar/vocal duo with Randy Furrer and Tim Fahy in the mid-70s, then later added lead guitarist Dave Casper. In the early 90s bassist Joe Trunko and keyboardist Bill Noltkamper were “riding that train” with current drummer Ryan Wilhite coming aboard in 2005. The band runs in phases and stages with several members coming and going through the years, but always sustaining a core intent of presenting, preserving and performing the music of the Dead. On Thanksgiving Day 2007 Jake’s Leg played a sold-out, 30-year anniversary show at the Pageant in St. Louis that reinvigorated the band once again as they continue the path on the “long, strange trip” that epitomizes the culture surrounding the Grateful Dead.
