WELCOME BACK VETERANS

The Land of Lincoln Honor Flight will be taking 95 central Illinois veterans on a one-day trip to Washington, D.C., on June 22, to visit the World War II Memorial, Arlington Cemetery and other memorials [see “Honor Flight gives WW II vets a trip, and a salute,” by Jackson Adams, June 16].

The organization’s chairman, Ray Wiedle, asks that people come to Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport at 9:30 p.m. to welcome the veterans back. The organization asks that people wear red, white and blue and that they carry flags and signs.

The Land of Lincoln Honor Flight hopes to take another group of veterans in September but currently lacks the funds to take another trip. There are more than 200 veterans still on the waiting list for the next trip. It costs $475 to send a veteran. Information on how to donate can be found at the organization’s website, www.landoflincolnhonorflight.org.
