New Goat Ensemble

This Sunday, the New Goat Ensemble celebrates 20 years of making the most marvelous and mischievous music this side of Pan himself. Always perpetrators of off-the-wall cover songs, the Jacksonville-based band became one of central Illinois’ most endearing original bands of the 90s through the songwriting of Jeff Davidsmeyer. With Davidsmeyer on rhythm guitar, piano, harmonica and vocals, fellow goatboy and guitar virtuoso Brad Floreth covered the lead work, implementing a virtual playground for music antics, ably aided in the mission by drummer Andy Hanson, bassist Rob Killam, plus an assorted group of honorable Goats, including Mike Krupp on percussion and Tony Berkman on drums. Through the last two decades the ensemble produced recordings both live and in the studio and played a variety of the most fun shows ever, chock full of goat-inspired shenanigans such as ridiculous giveaways, crazy joke songs and wonderfully played, danceable music in a pure Midwest blues-folk-rock-country style. Now they’re baaaaaaa-ck.
