Colossal street party
The Decatur Celebration Rocks the Big One commemorating its 25th anniversary. There’s music for any taste, games and rides for all ages, arts and crafts galore and food for all palates. This party is like a mini state fair. New this year are crispy cones filled with barbecue chicken, pirogue – a combination of shrimp and crawfish served in a beignet batter wrap – waffle ice cream cones and a dozen other items. All attractions and entertainment are free, including an Aug. 7 parade at 10 a.m. with giant helium balloons and more than 80 marching units, floats and bands. Jam out the weekend at 11 show stages with greats: Charlie Daniels Band, Lou Gramm, Expose, Ryan Cabrera, Francesca Battistelli, the Mummers and so many others.
