Greg Ginn

Look who’s coming to Norb Andy’s. It’s none other than Greg Ginn, founder of Black Flag, one of the most influential and important American punk bands. Ginn, chief songwriter and organizer of the group, worked along with Henry Rollins, the more visible frontman, from 1976 to 1986. After disbanding the band, Ginn continued playing guitar in various configurations while running his own record label, SST Records, based somewhere in Texas. The label launched the careers of several famous underground groups, such as Bad Brains, the Minute Men, Sonic Youth, Husker Du, the Descendents, and many others. Ginn recently released several new recordings and, after some 30 years performing, remains very active as he tours the Midwest this fall with Gary Piazza, a fellow guitarist in the Taylor Texas Corrugators. Ginn now describes his playing as, “jamband-funk-psychedellic from the roots” and made number 99 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the top 100 guitarists of all time.Photo by Dain Sandoval.
