It’s said that the first miracle Jesus Christ ever performed was turning water into wine, so it’s fitting that St. Joseph School and Parish in Springfield is hosting a fundraiser centered around the ancient grape beverage.

The event is being hosted by It’s All About Wine, a specialty wine shop in Springfield that frequently hosts fundraisers and wine tastings. The St. Joseph event includes two glasses of wine and hors d’oeuvres, and employees of the wine shop will be on hand to offer wine knowledge and suggestions.

Diane Mounce, a school board member and organizer for the event, says the shop was very receptive to the idea, and even waived the usual $50 fee. Mounce says she got the wine tasting idea from a similar soiree held by the Springfield-based Animal Protection League. During the week preceding the fundraiser, 10 percent discount coupons for the shop will be available to benefit the school and parish.

The event is planned for 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sept. 18 at It’s All About Wine, 1305 Wabash Avenue. Tickets cost $15 for individuals and $25 for couples. For more information call Diane Mounce at 971-2350, and to purchase tickets, call St. Joseph School and Parish at 523-6597.

“We would love to see the community come out and support us,” Mounce says. “It’s going to be a good time of fun and fellowship that benefits us and a local business as well.”
