GOLF FOR BASEBALL

The baseball season ended with a loss for the Springfield Sliders but not before they claimed the regular season championship title for the Prospect League’s Western Division.

To celebrate, and to thank sponsors and raise money for next year, the team will host a golf outing on Monday, Aug. 30, at Lincoln Greens. The four-person scramble will start at noon.

“We have a couple of holes where we have some pretty goofy antics going on,” says Sliders promotions manager Mitch Wallner. One hole will include a baseball bat tee off while another will bring the Sliders turtle mascot, Speedy, out of post-season hibernation.

Fees are $75 per person, or $250 for a foursome. To participate, contact the Sliders front office at 679-3511.

The Sliders lost last Monday, Aug. 16, in the Prospect League Western Division Championship post-season game, ending its 2010 season with a final record of 35 wins and 20 losses. The Prospect League, a summer wood bat league, hosts 15 amateur teams made up of college baseball players. There are five teams in each of three regional divisions.
