Whether the goal is romance or embarrassment, the Land of Lincoln Barbershop Chorus has lovers and Valentine’s Day friends covered.

Members of the organization on Feb. 14 will split up into groups of four to deliver songs – including “Love me tender,” “I love you truly,” and “Let me call you sweetheart” – wherever star-crossed lovers send them. Along with a card and a rose from the sender, the singers arrive on scene with a photographer in tow. Beginning their rounds at 8 a.m., the tuxedo-clad teams of four sing through the evening, at $45, $55 or $75 a stop (depending on time specificity), in order to raise funds to support the group’s operations through the year.

“It’s a lot of fun for the quartets to travel around into who knows what kind of situations,” says Greg Weickart, with the chorus. “We also bring Valentine’s Day, in four-part harmony, to a lot of people. That’s what our group is all about – trying to maintain that style.”
