The texture of accumulation

art8415

A new exhibit at the Springfield Art Association opens Thursday, March 3, with an opening reception on Friday, March 4, from 5-8 p.m. Pastiche features four American artists who each achieve, through different media and layering, a harmonious world of texture. Tennessee’s Anne Bagby builds, births and grows pattern, shape and color using paint and printmaking on small square canvases grouped together. Washington State resident Lois James coaxes fiber, pulp and color to move like the ocean in her handmade papers. Mary Frances of Springfield places collected scraps of railroad iron together in wonderful small sculptures, while Minneapolis Artist K. Daphnae Koop invents another level to the natural beauty of wood grain as she paints, metal leafs, powders, varnishes and positions glass on wood canvas.
