Knoepfle 3-4-04

cats in chelsea
cat #ii

meepy fine old white and gray
oh marvelous cat sitting upright
your four paws contiguous
cat for a pharaoh to brag on
or a master of zen to envy
and who would dare bother you
calling your name
expecting that you would cuddle
a peaceful afternoon in his arms
when you meditate a world away
wandering the dark matter
roiling your catabolic universe
oh philosophical puss
it is not that you are unfriendly
it is only that like plato
you are thinking of something else
when aristotle nods by

and yet for all that
a cats a cat and bedtime
here you come
poking my forearm with your vertical frown
saying how do you like my ears
and falling asleep then
so calmly in dreams of a walled garden
and a cats meow in paradise
