Pig out, ride high, be amazed throughout the streets, stalls and building halls of the Illinois State Fair as it opens its gates daily from Friday, Aug. 12 to Sunday, Aug. 21 with concerts, concessions, carnival rides, competitions, cows and so much more! Purchase concert tickets at 800-745-3000 to hear 3 Doors Down, the Oak Ridge Boys, Jason Aldean, Loverboy, MC Hammer and Lady Antebellum, among others, or for auto and harness racing tickets. Free stages offer local and regional entertainment usually starting around noon, and free exhibitions present information and inspiration, but check the fair’s website at illinoisstatefair.info for specific times and locations. Ride the giant slide or SkyGlide. Carnival rides cost $5 for four tickets or $25 for a bargain bracelet for unlimited rides. Family Day is the last day of the fair, Aug. 21, when admission is reduced by $2 per person. The Twilight Parade kicks of the festivities Thursday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m. making its way from Ninth Street and North Grand to the fairgrounds. The carnival and games are open from 5-11 p.m. this night.
