Plummer leaving Springfield Chamber

Gary Plummer is leaving his post as president and CEO of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce to become head of the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce in Kansas. Plummer’s last day will be Sept. 12. Erich Bloxdorf, now executive vice president, will become interim president of the Springfield chamber. Plummer, 53, came to Springfield in 2005 from Modesto, where he worked as head of the California city’s chamber of commerce for four years. He had previously worked at chambers of commerce in Wyoming, Iowa and Missouri. “I’m absolutely going to miss Springfield,” Plummer said. Plummer said he was contacted about the Wichita job in late May or early June. “It looked like a great opportunity for me to move to a little larger market,” Plummer said. Wichita has about 350,000 residents, and the metropolitan area has a population of about 650,000, Plummer said. The staff and budget of the Wichita chamber is about twice the size of the one in Springfield, he said. “They are the largest business association in the state of Kansas,” Plummer said.
