The Illinois Symphony Orchestra hits a home run with a free baseball-themed concert on the Old State Capitol grounds Sept. 4. You’ll hear all the songs you love about America’s favorite pastime, including “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Yaniv Segal conducts. He is New York Chelsea Symphony founder and Michigan Pops Orchestra music director. Special Old State Capitol activities are also planned. Between 2-5 p.m. inside the building learn about history through crafts. Then from 4-6 p.m., Springfield Long Nine Vintage Base Ball Team demonstrates how they played ball during the Civil War era. Ballpark-style food will be available for purchase. Parking underneath the Old State Capitol will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Experience the Excitement promises to be an exciting new symphony season as five guest conductors vie for the position of ISO music director by leading the orchestra at one concert each beginning Oct.15. They are Awadagin Pratt, Nicolas Kendall, Bridget Kibbey, Vadim Gluzman and Adam Neiman.
