Trick or treating for pork-and-beans?

Believe it.

Solar Universe: Central Illinois is teaming with Central Illinois Foodbank to collect food for the needy on Halloween. The company, which helps get people off the grid by installing solar-energy systems on homes and businesses, is organizing employees and volunteers to collect donated food on Oct. 31.

First, of course, they will need food to collect, and so they have set up donation spots at Illini Bank branches and four other local businesses, including Pro Com Services of Illinois, 2427 S. MacArthur Blvd.; Thermionics, 1214 E. Bunn Ave; The Real Estate Group, 3701 W. Wabash Ave.; Stanley Steemer, 2837 Singer Ave. and Solar Universe: Central Illinois, 2707 W. Washington St.

Soap, toilet paper and toothpaste are on the food bank’s wish list, as well as peanut butter, cereal and canned goods.

“We’ll take anything that we can get,” says Kaleigh Friend, food bank spokeswoman. “All the food we get is great, and it goes out almost as fast as it comes in the door.”

Donated items must be non-perishable and  brought in by Oct. 30. Costumed folks will collect the items on Halloween and take them to the food bank.
