ANTHONY LASEAN SMITH

Anthony had a smile that would light up any room and a heart as big as all outdoors. Anthony started work at McDonald’s on MacArthur before going to Lindsay’s. Then he pursued an associates degree in culinary arts, attending Lincoln Land Community College, then Joliet Junior College. He earned a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management from Western Illinois University.

He was employed as a teacher aide at Matheny-Withrow school. When Anthony would come to my shop to get his hair cut, he would share his adventures with his students, who were important to him.

The times I enjoyed most were times we spent together talking about church and the different projects each of us had getting things going there. Anthony was head chair for the annual mostaccioli dinner and the senior dinner at Christmas. He also facilitated the Black History Month activities, coordinating the guest speakers for each Sunday and an African-American meal. All presentations were above and beyond the call of duty.

Anthony was a member of Alpha Phi Omega national service fraternity and Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. He immensely enjoyed wearing his Blue and White and fellowshipping with his fraternity brothers. He loved doing community service and participating in fraternal business and activities with his entire Greek family.

Anthony brought peace, joy and happiness to all who knew him. He loved everyone and never met a stranger. He loved to travel and visit his family and friends. He certainly enjoyed the finer things in life and had expensive tastes. He loved to cook, and could make the best lasagna and omelets anyone ever tasted. Anthony was truly an angel sent to us by God, and he enriched all of our lives. Lord, thank you for giving us these past 44 years with one of your special angels. Until we meet again, we will celebrate his life and uphold his legacy.
