How many poets does it take to pack a parlor?

If you’re a poetry, literature, art, film, history or architecture buff, or someone just looking for a few magical moments in a magical place this weekend, the Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site, directly south of the governor’s mansion, hosts Poets in the Parlor at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15.

Poets reading are a handful of Springfield Poets and Writers members, including your blog-scribbler truly, Anita Stienstra. Also reading: Joe Kozma, Barbara McDonald, Ken Sibley, Sandra McKenna and Hugh MooreThis is a fine bunch of poets, and an even finer group of people, I might add.

Lindsay was a poet, artist, film buff and visionary and all those aspects of who he was is evident in his home. And we will indeed be in his parlor. Site manager Jennie Battles lines up the chairs and warmly welcomes everyone. The intimate sharing of words and visions is Saturday at 603 S. Fifth Street. To conclude the 45-60 minute gathering, Jennie will serve refreshments, which are always amazing and refreshingly simple, and you can take a tour of the home if you’d like. Also sponsored by the Vachel Lindsay Association who have a very informative site on Lindsay.

Look at this spread! This was one of the lovely arrays of refreshments that VLH Site Manger Jennie Battles put together for guests after a Poets in the Parlor reading or special event. Jennie always goes above and beyond the call of duty to make everyone's experience at the home enjoyable. Now, I'm not saying you'll get this on Saturday, but I promise you a free drink and morsel.
