Weekend photos from the capital city

IMG_20130906_192103.jpgA look into the crowd from the podium at a full house Friday night at Prairie Art Alliance Gallery II during Poets, Painters and Performers. Poets Mark Russillo and Thea Chesley have a couple warm, happy smiles for the camera. Directly behind them in pink and black, Poet Shawna Mayer. All are members of Springfield Poets and Writers. Below is Mark and Thea with PAA interim Executive Director Jennifer Snopko and PAA Gallery II docent Keely who both put a lot of work into the event.

A few of the musicians and poets who performed and spoke include (above) Julie Hulvey on guitar singing an original song, "Here Comes Joy," Artist Mary Ellen Strack, Ben S. Jacob on drums, Springfield Artist Felicia Olin, Poet Mark Flotow and Poet Joe Kozma. Below is Poet Siobhan Johnson and Artist Lee Dowling (photos by Mark Flotow).

The poems, paintings and music will be on display at Gallery II through Sept. Some of the work is also on display here.

The Vachel Lindsay Home was getting a new paint job on its front porch.

So we had to got around to the side door. But I got this great photo of the home and one of its trees.

Findlay Poet Dan Guillory signing one of his new books HousePoems. He was the Poet in the Parlor on Saturday afternoon.

Dan's reading was very interesting and he had large photographs to accompany his talk and reading on historic homes.
