Fare and square

One-of-the-most popular spring soirees in our area, the Old Capitol Art Fair is always a fun and inspiring weekend of fine art and community camaraderie. Head to downtown Springfield Saturday or Sunday to view or purchase original wares by juried artists from around the country. There’s something for everyone -- jewelry, sculpture, photography, glassware, pottery, wood, metalwork, oils, watercolors and more. There’s also a children’s tent where kids can purchase a piece of art for a small price. The food is always good, the entertainment amazing. This year, you might want to check out and purchase the new book, Five Decades: The Springfield Civic Art Collection. The publication highlights the civic art collection amassed since the fair’s beginning in 1961. Visit for a wealth of information about the Fair, including where to park.
