Despite being eliminated from the Progressive Automotive XPrize competition on what amounts to a technicality, the Illuminati Motorworks crew is still working on their fully-electric four-seat vehicle, Seven, which gets the equivalent of between 119 and 230 miles per gallon. The next step is testing the car’s power and efficiency at the Chrysler Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Mich., but first they’ll be making an appearance in Springfield for a good cause. The Springfield-based Italian American War Veterans (ITAM) Versace Post 9 will host Seven at its 9th Annual “All-U-Can-Eat” Pancake and Italian Sausage Breakfast on March 20. ITAM has donated more than $4,000 to the Springfield Veterans’ Mobile Bus, which helps veterans in need.

The veterans group also raises money for the American Red Cross and Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, which flies local veterans to Washington, D.C. for free to visit war memorials. The Illuminati crew will be on hand to show off the car and answer questions. All proceeds will go toward helping central Illinois veterans. The breakfast runs from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on March 20 at the Knights of Columbus Post 364, 2200 S. Meadowbrook Rd. Admission is $6 for adults, while kids age 10 and under eat free. For more information, contact past ITAM commander Vic Gairani by phone at 341-2737 or 698-9232, or by email at
