Power plays

The Sangamon Valley Group of the Sierra Club and Sustainable Springfield, Inc. host a Smart Energy Forum at Lincoln Library on Jan. 24 during the SVG’s monthly meeting. Featured is the City Water, Light and Power Energy Services Office. Manager Bill Mills leads the forum providing general updates on CWLP energy efficiency and conservation programs, as well as information about CWLP’s wind power procurement, solar power and net-metering application process, Cool Cities initiative and the newly formed Springfield Green Business Network. CWLP Energy Services Office is responsible for the development and implementation of education, outreach and efficiency programs for both electrical energy and water conservation for its customers. Specifically, the ESO provides both residential and commercial energy efficiency rebates, water conservation education and technical services to CWLP customers. Popular programs include insulation, heat pumps and the CityLights rebates.
