Harping on

Concertgoers are in for a treat as critically-acclaimed harpist Bridget Kibbey plays with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Sangamon Auditorium, UIS. “Ecstatic & Exotic Music” showcases the exotic sounds of Spanish serenades and ethereal bliss. Guest conductor is music director candidate Rei Hotoda, assistant conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, who was called “talented and poised with strong potential” by the Washington Post. Kibbey’s debut solo disc, Love is Come Again, was named by Time Out New York as one of 2007’s Top Ten Recordings. She has also been broadcast on NPR’s “Performance Today” and A&E’s “Breakfast with the Arts.” Pre-concert comments begin at 7 p.m. hosted by WUIS radio’s Karl Scroggin. Tickets can also be purchased two hours prior to performance. Read more at
