I am currently a Graphic Design and Marketing student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Since starting school I have been experimenting with different styles and techniques. A lot of what I have been making is digital, including the work I submitted for Illinois Times. In “Abraham Lincoln in Geometric Space” I was interested in modernizing and adding a graphic take on classic portraiture by mixing different styles and textures in 2D. I do a lot of watercolor pen drawings, mixing the realistic element of a figure or portrait drawing with graphic elements of shape. I am excited for my future in the arts.
Art has always been a part of my life. Some of my earliest memories were made sitting at the kitchen table with my mom drawing or making clay figurines together. My mom, an artist herself, always brought me to art exhibitions and museums with her. She put me in pottery classes and art classes outside of school. On summer vacations my mom would give my sister and me a journal to draw and write in -- we would sit down for hours drawing anything that inspired us. It wasn’t until my senior year of high school that I rediscovered my love for art again. I took AP studio and began getting recognized for my art. I won a National Scholastic Art Award and American Visionary Award for my piece, “Under Pressure.” The awards motivated me to continue creating and inspired me to focus pursuing fine art as a career.
