Summer Arts Camp

The Garvey/Tubman Cultural Arts and Research Center recently announced its 2017 Summer Arts Camp.
The camp strives to provide students the chance to explore visual communications, artistic collaborations and learn the wonders of making and creating sculptures. 

Running for 10 weeks from June 5 through Aug. 11, the camp will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, located on 2208 E. Kansas St. in Springfield. The camp is for children ages 7 to 11 years old.

Artist and musician John T. Crisp Jr. will oversee camp activities, which include painting, clay sculpture, drawing, computer graphics, beading and the use of recycled materials such as bottle tops, magazines and newspapers. Students will create projects that will be displayed at the first annual Summer Arts Festival, held on Friday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., also the final day of camp. 

The cost to attend is $100 per student, and scholarships are currently available through Sangamon County Community Resources. For more information, visit the research center’s website at http://garveytubman.org.
