freedom poem #3

freedom poem #3

I don’t know if she’s over the moon
yet but the helium-bloated bovine
balloon with “Holy Cow! Another
Birthday!” blazoned on her flank
(a recent gift) slipped her halter as
we were handing her to a downblock
kid to have the thrill of holding her
we watched bossy ruefully as, lodged
far up in a maple tree, she worked her
way through the topmost  leaves and
free at last soared up up into the wild
blue yonder she’ll descend eventually
maybe into a field where kine confined
to nearby cafos will not be able to spot
her nor envy her adventurous journey
