The Engle Farm in Roodhouse will be the site of two Hummingbird Festivals, scheduled for Thursday, July 12 and Sunday, Aug. 12. Despite this having been a disappointing year for area hummingbird enthusiasts, the ones attracted to the site’s feeders will certainly put on a show for festival visitors. Vernon Kleen, a licensed hummingbird bander and president of the Lincoln Land Association of Bird Banders, will kick off both festivals with a short discussion about hummingbirds and explaining why they are banded. After the discussion, hummingbirds will be captured, banded and released. There is no admission fee for the all-ages event, but donations are accepted. Visitors who “adopt” birds will receive a signed certificate and will be notified if their bird is ever recaptured. For further details, call 320-9006.
