“Art Meets Writing” at SAA Collective

The SAA Collective will host a free public reception for In Black and White: Art Meets Writing, an international, interdisciplinary exhibition from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3. The collaborative exhibition will showcase creative writing inspired by black and white artwork. The artwork was selected by a panel of judges from over 300 submissions. “We had an overwhelming response from visual artists looking to be included in the exhibition. This concept was very attractive,” said SAA Collective gallery director Corrin McWhirter.W “The possibility of seeing their work interpreted by a writer is a unique opportunity. It has the potential to inspire future work.”After the artwork was chosen, more than a dozen writers created prose inspired by either visual or conceptual elements of the artwork. The lights will be dimmed for a “Night Gallery” event immediately following the reception, featuring atmospheric sounds from electronic musician Eric Rogers and lanterns provided to visitors so they can explore the darkened space. The SAA Collective Gallery is located inside the Hoogland Center for the Arts, 420 S. Sixth St.
