A romantic comedy classic

Take in a performance of Barefoot in the Park, a romantic comedy about Corie and Paul Bratter, a newlywed couple making their first home in an apartment on the top floor of a brownstone in New York City. While adjusting to married life can be difficult, the flaws of their apartment add to the challenges, as do Corie and Paul’s disparate personalities — Paul is grounded and strait-laced, while Corie is a spontaneous free spirit. Things get even more interesting when Corie’s mother makes a surprise visit and they decide to play matchmaker with their neighbor who lives in the attic of the building. Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park premiered on Broadway in 1963 and was nominated for three 1964 Tony Awards. It was Simon’s longest running hit. The play was adapted for a film in 1967 and ABC began airing a television series based on the play in September 1970. This local production of the play is directed by John Sivak and produced by Liz Brown Reeves and Judy McEvoy. Admission is $18 for students and seniors (over age 60) and $20 for adults. Advance tickets can be purchased online at http://hcfta.org or by calling the box office at 523-2787.
