Editor's note 3/28/19

When Springfield voters go to the polls Tuesday on Election Day, they will find a robust ballot with dozens of candidates, many newcomers and more women than in past local elections. Several candidate forums have offered plenty of opportunity for voters to be informed, and Illinois Times has reported on campaigns for all the city offices and all the aldermanic contests – election stories are available at illinoistimes.com.  In the mayor’s race, Frank Edwards has put up enough of a challenge to incumbent Jim Langfelder so that city issues, from race disparities to electric rates, have gotten a thorough discussion. Though current local issues are more routine than earthshaking, we sense new enthusiasm for this old process of democracy. Prove us right by getting out to vote. –Fletcher Farrar, editor and publisher
