Autism Support of Central Illinois
Autism spectrum disorder is a complex developmental disability the signs of which typically appear during early childhood and affect a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. Those with autism are often highly sensitive to their environment – their senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste can all be easily overloaded. The local nonprofit organization, Autism Support of Central Illinois (ASCI), in addition to providing support and resources to families impacted by autism, also sponsors many activities that are sensory-friendly. Upcoming sensory-friendly activities include roller skating, cinema and museum visits and horseback riding. By means of donations, volunteers and community partners, the ASCI is able to offer the activities to families affected by autism free of charge. As the organization is a United Way member, the donations it receives are tax deductible. More information is available at autismcil.org.
