Poetry and Fiction

The Vachel Lindsay Association is offering a poetry and fiction writing camp for students aged 13 to 18. Students will study basic elements of poetry and experience a broad range of classic and contemporary poetry. They will use the study of those poems as a springboard for their own work.  The students will also learn the storytelling craft of fiction writing and will discuss inventing original characters and storylines, borrowing from and playing with existing fictional creations. With these studies and with practice, the teen writers will create poetry that leaps from the page and put great stories to paper.  While the students will focus on creating new writing in both poetry and fiction, they will also revise their work for inclusion in a small literary publication that will be read at a community performance in August.
