Springfield’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been an annual event since 1985.  That year the grand marshal was William “Pinky” McHenry who was instrumental in the revitalization of St. John’s Breadline and Friends of Brother James Court.  This year the honor goes to Share the Spirit Foundation.  The Foundation was formed in 2003 with the intention of providing new shoes to children in need.  They work hand-in-hand with volunteers, community organizations, schools and donors to assist with dignity and compassion.  Share the Spirit Foundation focuses on communities in both Illinois and Colorado, but also travels the nation fulfilling their mission. In Springfield, they host Shoes for Black Hawk Elementary School and the Back to School Shoe Clozet. The Foundation receives nothing for administrative or travel expenses and is a strictly volunteer organization from which all proceeds go to those who need it most.
